Frequenza Volontaria

Optional early clinical attendance in wards or labs before it's formally required.

Frequenza volontaria is optional attendance in a ward, lab, or clinic beyond what your scheduled rotations already require — a chance to spend extra time somewhere specific before it's formally assigned to you, or alongside a thesis.

The process runs through a single form, the "Domanda di Frequenza Volontaria" (Modulo 1), which needs three signatures before it's valid: the director of the structure where you want to attend, your thesis supervisor if the frequenza is for thesis prep, and the President of your Course of Studies. You then submit it to the GEDAP office (Gestione Erogazione Didattica e Attività Professionalizzante) at least 20 days before the period starts — that lead time exists because the hosting hospital or department needs real advance notice too, not just UNIVPM's own sign-off. If the structure isn't part of the AOU delle Marche (Torrette/Salesi), the host institution's own acceptance is a separate, additional requirement on top of UNIVPM's approval.

Two things catch people out: you need to have completed the mandatory e-learning workplace-safety course before frequenza can be authorized, and whatever hours you agree with the ward need to not overlap your required clinical internship schedule — that's coordinated directly with the structure, not centrally.

All frequenza volontaria requests — for any Course of Studies, not just Medicine — go through the Helpdesk Servizio Didattica Medicina ticketing system. Register with your @studenti.univpm.it address, phone number, and student ID, then open a ticket.
