Research Opportunities

Get involved in ongoing research projects and labs across the university.

There isn't a separate "apply to a lab" process at UNIVPM — getting into a research project as an undergraduate runs through the exact same Frequenza Volontaria mechanism as the ward-attendance activity above, specifically its "preparazione tesi" variant. The paperwork is identical: the "Domanda di Frequenza Volontaria" form, signed by the lab or department director and your thesis supervisor (relatore), filed with GEDAP at least 20 days before you start, with the same safety e-learning prerequisite. The one extra eligibility rule: this specific variant is reserved for students in their 2nd year or later who have already cleared every CFU from Year 1 by the time they apply.

What that means practically is that the real first step isn't a form, it's a professor. There's no matching portal — you identify a professor whose subject or specialty you want to work under (this site's own Contacts tab on each subject page lists professor names and emails) and email them directly asking whether they have an open thesis or research spot. This is the normal route students actually use, not a workaround.

It's worth knowing the research is real and active even though the intake isn't centralized: the AOU delle Marche, UNIVPM's teaching hospital trust, reported 569 experimental studies running across the 2022-2024 period, spanning oncology, hematology, and cardiology most heavily but reaching across essentially every clinical and surgical discipline. If a professor says yes, the frequenza volontaria paperwork above is what turns that into something official.
